This young and dynamic company is run by Shmuel Yolzari, an Israeli born
sculptor, Goldsmith and diamond cutter and his Irish born wife Mairead.
Shmuel studied jewellery at the Tel Aviv Centre for jewellery & design. He also studied with a Russian sculptor in the old city Jaffa. For 18 years he cut and polished diamonds in Israel, South Africa and Belgium but his great love was always carving and jewellery design. Shmuel's wide and varied gold and silver jewellery reflects his many influences which range from the Middle East, the Balkans (his parents are both Bulgarian) and Ireland where he spent many summers before moving here in 1998 to start his own business. During his many visits to Ireland Shmuel developed a love of traditional Irish music and started off by playing the tin whistle and later bought a set of Ullean pipes which he is currently learning to play. The beauty and craftsmanship of the Ullean pipes with their ebony and silver pipes inspired his ebony range of jewellery. His "Millennium Collection", a range of 10 designs in sterling silver and ebony are a very good example of this. Shmuel hand carves semi precious stones which he then sets in either gold or silver to create very unique one-off pieces. He works to commission and enjoys the challenge of other peoples' ideas. "The Courtyard" Craft & Exhibition Centre, 8 Main St., Midleton, Co. Cork, Ireland where Shmuel has his studio is a vibrant and exciting centre consisting of a gallery, craft studios, classrooms, restaurant and a small craft shop and is a great venue to meet other craft workers and artists to chat and exchange ideas. |
